Much like Western cultures Halloween, some Eastern cultures celebrate a Fall festival where they believe the gates of hell are thrown open, releasing hungry ghosts to wander the earth in search of food and taking revenge upon those who wronged them in life. This month-long festival is known as the Hungry Ghost Festival and takes place during the 7th lunar month.
Unlike other celebrations of the dead in Eastern cultures that seek to honor dead ancestors, the Hungry Ghost Festival seeks to pacify the hungry ghosts, the ghosts of strangers and the un-cared-for dead. These are the ghosts of those who died by their own hands, by accidents, by drowning or hanging who have been denied entry into heaven. Angry because they are forced to dwell in hell without food or comfort, when released, they search for souls to take their place in misery.

In the early morning of the fifteenth day of the seventh lunar month, grandma went to the market to buy rich dishes such as chicken, duck, fish and meat. It turned out that the Mid-Autumn Festival was here.
Grandma greeted our "ancestors" with hair cakes, soy milk, baked steamed bread and a string of crunchy firecrackers. After the "ancestor" finished eating breakfast, it rained heavily all over the world. It is said that this is the foot washing water brought by the "ancestor" from a distant place.
Grandma and dad have been busy all afternoon, and prepared a feast to worship the "ancestors". Grandma looked serious, put a pair of chopsticks on the edge of the bowl, put them on the table, poured cups of wine, filled bowls of rice, and warmly greeted "them" to eat and drink. Grandma forbade us to chase and fight or even say a word, for fear of offending our ancestors.
After dinner, grandma drew several circles in the yard with white powder, put incense on them, piled paper money and cash cows in the circle, lit a fire, and let us kowtow to our ancestors. Grandma said respectfully, "This is for you to go to Yangzhou to see a play, and this is for you to travel around. Please bless us in peace?"

I dont know why the air is always filled with the smell of burnt paper these two days, and firecrackers are set off from time to time, which makes me afraid to open the window and go out, because the air quality is too poor. So I asked my mother why? My mother told me that the Mid-Autumn Festival is coming, and everyone is burning paper money to pay homage to their ancestors, so the air is always not very good. I was curious about what "Mid-Autumn Festival" is, so I went online to look up relevant information. After inquiry, I know the "Mid-Autumn Festival", which is the 15th day of July in the lunar calendar every year, which is commonly known as "Ghost Festival".
Speaking of "Ghost Festival", I think students may be more familiar with "Halloween"! It is the "Ghost Festival" in the west. On this day, children can dress up in various strange ways and ask their neighbors for candy ... There is nothing like the "smoke filled" and "fog around the clouds" of the "Ghost Festival" in China that makes people afraid to take a deep breath, because it is extremely uncomfortable to inhale too much smoke if they are not careful.
I really hope that our "Ghost Festival" is also a harmonious and happy festival among neighbors like the West, rather than a day when people are afraid to go out because of the smoke and fog.

The 15th day of July in the lunar calendar is a traditional Ghost Festival, on which people burn paper money and offer offerings to pay homage to the dead.
But do you know the origin of Ghost Festival? According to legend, the Bodhisattva Diksitigarbha, also known as the [terrifying], came to the underworld after his mother died, and was imprisoned in his cell under the torture of eighteen layers of hell. The Bodhisattva Diksitigarbha was a filial son, and could not bear to see his mother suffer. On the 15th of July, he had an affair and let the kids guarding the cell secretly open the cell door and let his mother come out. But it didnt matter, and the kids in the cell flocked out. In July and a half, ghosts are running around. Those ghosts who ran back to their hometown asked their families for money so that they could go back to live and get through their joints, hoping to support their lives as soon as possible. Later, people designated this day as [Ghost Festival]

Yesterday was the Mid-Autumn Festival on July 15th. Because it is the Mid-Autumn Festival, the merciful heaven also shed tears and dropped some light rain. Go to Yanerwo to relax yourself. Looking all the way, the cemetery martyrs cemetery is full of traffic. The traffic jam is quite serious.
The business of incense sticks on the roadside is very good. Yan er nest is still quiet and fragrant, walking on the soft lawn, looking for the beauty of mountain flowers and the darkness of ancient trees, lying on the grass looking up at the blue sky and white clouds, the tree wants to be quiet but the wind will not stop, and the long soft willow branches of the tree are fluttering with the wind. Graceful dancing is so beautiful and natural.
That cloud is the beauty in your arms that day. Looking for seclusion, looking at the past, let your thoughts be everywhere in the green grass, Huang Ju, playing in the water, and the pavilions in the deep alleys of stone bridges. I cant help but think of: withered vines and old trees faint crows, small bridges and flowing people, ancient roads and thin horses, sunset, heartbroken people in the end of the world. Looking into the distance, beer is withdrawn from the earth, silently wishing those who love us kindly in heaven are still well.

The Mid-Autumn Festival is also called July and a half. The name of the Mid-Autumn Festival originated in the Northern Wei Dynasty, and it is commonly known as Ghost Festival in some places. According to the custom, on this day, every family should give a fragrant incense to their deceased relatives and then burn paper money to show their filial piety to their ancestors.
A few days before the festival, my uncle informed us in advance that the Mid-Autumn Festival would be celebrated at their home.
Today happens to be the Mid-Autumn Festival on July 15th. My father and I arrived at my uncles house early in the morning. After greeting everyone politely, my father took me into a room.
As soon as I entered the room, I saw a table with portraits of grandpa, Taigong and Tainai on it. In the photo, grandpa is sitting on a stool. Taigong and Taitais nipples are white. They look like they are in their seventies, but their faces are very kind. My father and I put a taste of incense in the incense burner, knelt in front of the portrait and left.
Nothing happened after lunch break. I was picking rape flowers in the vegetable garden, and I heard my uncle calling me from a distance: Yu Kun, come and help me, and burn tribute (paper money). I hurried over, and uncle first reported that the fire bricks were built. Put firewood and lighter under it, and the tributes will soon burn.
After that, my mother and aunt and I put it in barrels, mentioned it to a nearby river, and poured it into the river. At this time, I heard people who were also pouring paper money muttering: Taigong and Tainai will be waiting to collect it somewhere in this river.
I know this is all superstitious stuff. In fact, many activities of this festival want to tell us to remember our ancestors and honor them, and not to remember the love they once gave us.

There are many legends about the Mid-Autumn Festival, and the most important one in Taoism is that "on the Mid-Autumn Day in July, the local officials descended and the good and evil on earth were determined, so the Taoist priests chanted scriptures at night and the prisoners were freed from hunger." On the first day of the seventh lunar month every year, Yan Luowang opens the gate of hell and releases a group of ghosts who are not worshipped to enjoy peoples sacrifices in the dead. On the last day of July, before the ghost gate was closed again, these ghosts had to return to the underworld.
The Buddhist Bonin Festival originated from the story of "Mulian Saving Mother", which comes from the Tripitaka (Buddhism introduced from India). The story of Mu Lians saving his mother: Among the disciples of the Buddha, Mu Lian, who has the highest magical power, misses his dead mother. He used his magical power to see that his mother was rewarded for her greed while she was alive, and she fell into the evil spirit after her death and lived a life without enough food. Mu Yulian used his divine power to turn it into food and gave it to his mother, but her mother didnt change her greed. When she saw the food coming, she was afraid that other evil spirits would rob her of it. When the food was greedy, it immediately turned into charcoal and could not be swallowed. Although Mu Yulian has magical powers, as a son of man, she cant save her mother, which is very painful. Please ask the Buddha what to do. The Buddha said, "July 15th is the last day of settling down and practicing in summer, and it is full of good dharma. On this day, there are many kinds of dishes for the monks in the lane, and their merits are boundless. You can use this compassion to save his dead mother. "In accordance with the Buddhas will, Mulian offered her mother a vegetarian meal filled with rare fruits in an orchid basin on July 15th, and her mother finally got food." This is the origin of "good brothers" in Purdue, Baodao.

The name Zhongyuan comes from Taoism, one of the three major religions in China. It is said that in Taoism, officials in the sky have to investigate the good and evil on earth three times in a year, which is called "Yuan", so there are "Three Yuan" in a year. On January 15th, the lunar calendar is called Shang Yuan, July 15th is called Zhong Yuan, and October 15th is called Xia Yuan. Sacrifice ceremonies will be held in these three days.
Why is there only one "Zhongyuan" left in "Sanyuan" in Japan? Thats because this day happens to be the same day as the "Bonsai" (Imperial Bonsai) in Japanese Buddhism. In addition, the "Zhongyuan" is just the harvest period of crops, and it is also an aspect to thank the ancestors for their blessing. On this day, in order to pray for a safe life until the next Mid-Autumn Festival, people worship their ancestors in succession and present rice and flour food to relatives and friends.
When Taoism was introduced into Japan, the custom of "Zhongyuan" in China was mixed with the "Orchid Club" in Japan, so it became the Zhongyuan Festival of giving gifts to each other now.
Mid-Autumn Festival refers to the gift-giving habit of expressing gratitude to those who take care of themselves from early July to mid-July every year. Peoples gratitude to others at ordinary times is all contained in the small gifts of the Mid-Autumn Festival, so it is very important. As the saying goes, "courtesy is light and affection is heavy".
Japanese people usually send beautifully packaged gift boxes, the contents of which are usually juice, vegetarian noodles, cooking oil, lotion, ham, cakes and so on.

Today is the annual Mid-Autumn Festival on the fifteenth day of the seventh lunar month. Im going to visit my grandmothers grave.
My mother woke me up early in the morning and counted down to buy burning paper, which is the so-called "money" for losing my loved ones. I was dazzled by all kinds of money at the market. There is one yuan. Two yuan and one thousand yuan notes with the head of the Jade Emperor on them. There are also gold and silver ingots, paper coins ...
Well go back after we buy the burnt paper.
Grandmas grave is in a large corn field. Because the leaves of corn are very sharp, it is easy to scratch us, so we all take precautions. My aunt, grandmother and mother both wore rags and took the lead in rushing into the cornfield. I was not to be outdone. I put on my raincoat and rushed into the cornfield. In the field, I stretched my hands forward and pushed the corn leaves to both sides so that I wouldnt be hurt.
After ten minutes or so, we came to the grave to pull a cross frame by hand, and then lit the "money" with a lighter. The fire suddenly burned and pulled up. Because of the sultry corn field and the burning flame, we were already sweating even more, and the sweat was pattering down, but my mother said, "Mom should be willing to spend money when she receives your money, so dont scrimp and save ..." At this time, my mothers expression was so serious. Pain.
Mid-Autumn Festival, a sad day; This day of missing relatives; This is a day I will never forget.
